So, Ben Spies would have qualified 16th or so on his gsxr-1000 for the MotoGP field.

How close are the Superbikes to the MotoGP bikes in performance?

Quite a bit, you'd see a much bigger gap at a faster track. MotoGp bikes have more horsepower, are lighter, have better brakes, traction control, tires and riders.

yeah, but he would have been lapped in the race. I felt the same way but after thinking about it 2 sec lap difference is huge at a smaller track like Laguna.
