R.I.P. Marco Simoncelli

Postby sweetr6 » Sun Oct 23, 2011 12:24 pm

Marco Simoncelli died after being involved in an accident with Edwards and Rossi this morning in Sepang. He tried recovering from loosing the front, when the front regained traction, he veered directly into the path of Edwards and Rossi whose bikes struck Simoncelli knocking his helmet off. He died of severe head, neck and chest trauma. Rest in peace Sic.

Just a reminder of how dangerous motorsports can be. Dan Wheldon last week and Marco this week.
They both died doing what they really loved to do. This is something most people will never understand.
I've heard it all too often from the "noners" (non-racers). We as racers do understand the risks involved but know in our hearts that all precautions will be taken. We don't just throw caution to the wind but take many factors into account. The spirit and thrill of competition resides in all of us that don a helmet and take to the track.
Godspeed to our fallen racing warriors.

That was an ugly looking crash. Looked like CE ran over his body and Rossi hit his head at the same time. For some reason I just knew it was fatal.... and unfortunately it was confirmed.

Marco was really fun to watch, never gave up and always tried his hardest. RIP

Yeah -- it looks like Edwards' bike landed right on Sic's head after the helmet flew off.... Kinda stomach turning to watch. Gotta feel bad for Edwards and Rossi, too, I bet they feel pretty guilty about what happened.

It looked like he got clobbered by his own bike as well. Basically, worst case senario happened to him.

Thats one of those wrecks you never want to see especially someone's helmet coming off. He was an awesome racer. RIP Marco.

Damn... RIP... Rough month for motorsports....

first Dan Wheldon in the Formula race, that same day Rick Husman from Lucas Off Road Racing was killed in a plane crash. Now this one...

My thoughts and prayers to all of their families.
